NEW THINKING NEEDED FOR POVERTY ERADICATION

Poverty reduction will require a united effort from those at the top of national hierarchies to the base. This matter of Poverty Eradication needs urgent attention.

Current policies, bureaucracies and regulations are hindering positive changes for reducing and even eradicating poverty.

There needs to be closer co-ordination between NGO’s, Governments and the various Business Sectors. There is also the need for greater organization between the UN and NGO’s in particular to better deal with the needs for the purpose of poverty eradication.

Ultimately, the change must first happen within the minds of every person involved; those who are in poverty and those who are willing to bring change in areas of poverty. When the mind changes our speech will change; and when the speech changes then the environment will change. This will bring solutions. Hence, communities, and ultimately, nations will experience positive changes.

Those in poverty must see first see the vision of themselves beyond or outside of the poverty.

To change in the economy, which will eventually reduce poverty, it must begin with the small things. The 5 loaves and 2 fishes syndrome, which ultimately fed thousands. The change will come through the small businesses and through those we deem as small! IF everyone gave a dollar toward poverty reduction, then we will see major changes.

We also need to look at economic freedom to reduce poverty! Things such as zoning regulations are hindering growth. The increasing cost of air fares and baggage charges negatively affect the small businesses and low-income individuals, and reduces – even eliminates their positive contribution to economic growth and sustainable development.

Here are suggestions for reducing poverty.

Large and small companies can come together within each nation and issue scholarships for the purpose of education.

Governments can reduce tax from all basic food items. (Basic according to each nation’s situation)

Keep interest rates low.

Focus great efforts on improving Health and Education in each nation. Greater investment must be focused on Human Development rather than buildings.

There needs to be Tax Reform which will allow the wealthy must pay a higher percentage in Taxes.

With the increasing value of gold, more people will be turning to alternative materials. So, more factories need to be built to turn raw materials into profitable products. Costume jewelry designers and those in the fashion industry will require more affordable raw materials – such as non-biodegradable plastic.

Set up more skills training centers to help school drop-outs and street children to bring out their skills – music, sports, carpentry, auto-mechanics, and seamstresses – and ultimately bring revenue into the economic system of their country.

First-world countries need to give the third-world Countries debt write-offs and leniency on some of the export-related regulations – including visa requirements.

Let it be mandatory for students to go into impoverished areas and volunteer. They will then have a greater appreciation for what they have and broaden the scope of their knowledge.
