Basic Dream Interpretation
Many people are wondering if God really speaks. God always speaks to us in dreams and visions – of things to come or things that we must do. It is for us to pray or seek the interpretation from a man or woman of God, who then seeks the Lord on the matter. (See Daniel 2: 19 – 23).
The first step to getting your answer is to use the Word. For example, God may show you a dog in a vision. Ina vision, a dog carries two meanings – negative and positive.
Some of the negative meanings for a dog are ‘a person who will tear you apart with his/her tongue; an ungrateful person who will reward you evil for good (Matthew 7: 6; one who is greedy and never satisfied; outsiders, sinners (Isaiah 56: 11; Revelation 22: 15); a backsliders who to their old ways II Peter 2: 22; Proverbs 26: 11.’ The ‘dog’ also represents ‘slander.’
Some of the positive meanings of the ‘dog’ in a vision are ‘watchmen; intercessors who will watch and pray (Isaiah 56: 9 – 10); security personnel; one who guards the king VIP’s or nation leaders.’
If the dog barks at you or bites you, then that means ‘betrayal’.
If the Lord has revealed that it is an intercessor barking or biting, then it could mean that the intercessor is no longer loyal to you; and they are, in fact, ripping you apart with their tongue. This is just one interpretation.
God shows us symbols as a method of speaking to us.
He may show kings/pharaohs the symbol of a ‘cow’ which speaks of ‘the nation’s economy, prosperity or of backsliding or famine.’ (See Genesis 41; Malachi 4: 2) It also speaks of ‘idolatry’ (See Exodus 32: 4 & 35; Hosea 4: 16).
The Nation’s Economy
God spoke to king Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2: 1 and none of his advisors could interpret it. Many leaders are having dreams and visions and God wants them to seek the Godly interpreter for the explanation/interpretation of their dreams and visions.
Daniel the Prophet could interpret dreams, as is shown in the book of Daniel, especially Daniel 2: 20 – 23 & 28 which says,
“Daniel answered and said: ‘Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding. He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him. “I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, And have now made known to me what we asked of You, For You have made known to us the king’s demand.’ … But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, were these: …”
God can make known to us the king’s demands – all demands! God is ready to speak and help us but we need to humble ourselves and seek Him.
God also appeared to King Solomon in a dream – I Kings 3: 5 – instructed him to ask ‘What shall I give you?’ Solomon requested wisdom!
God is speaking to you. Are you listening? The next time the Holy Spirit speaks to you in dreams and visions, seek for the interpretation. He likes to speak when you sleep! Solomon wrote: “I sleep, but my heart is awake.” – Songs of Solomon 5: 2.
Job 33: 14 - 18 reminds us:
“… For God may speak in one way, or in another, yet man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, while slumbering on their beds, then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction. In order to turn man from his deed, and conceal pride from man, He keeps back his soul from the Pit, and his life from perishing by the sword…”
This is explains why God speaks – for instruction, direction, protection, guidance and the fulfillment of His will!
There are six (6) things that dreams do – according to Judges 10 – 15.
1. Provide God’s answers to our questions
2. Instruct us in the things of God (See also Matthew 1: 19 – 21)
3. Warn us about unseen danger (See also Matthew 2: 12 – 13 & 22)
4. Guide us away from wrongdoings (See also Genesis 20: 3 – 8; Genesis 31: 24; Matthew 27: 19)
5. Keep us from pride (See also Daniel 4: 19 – 37)
6. Save our lives (See also Matthew 2: 13)

Genesis 40: 8 lets us know that interpretation belongs to God. God always warns us of things to come so that we can pray accordingly or take the necessary steps to prevent what lies ahead. But do we really believe? Now there are serious things ahead that God is speaking to us about, such as:
· Famine
· Poverty
· Plagues
· Disease
· Lack
· Cosmic & Environmental Problems
It is very important for us to take note of what God is saying to us right now – especially leaders.
